2021 Porsche Cayman: Ceramic Coating Service For Paint & Wheels

Detail & Protect Your Porsche With a Professional Ceramic Coating Service

Preserving a Well-Maintained Porsche With Long-Term Protection

This 2021 Porsche Cayman GTS came in already protected with PPF that was installed a few years back. The owner has taken great care of the car, and our goal was to elevate the finish even further with a full ceramic coating service—while safely working around the existing film and adding a wheels-off ceramic treatment for maximum longevity.

At Shine Division, we also work on vehicles that already have paint protection film. Whether the film is brand new or has been on the car for years, our process is tailored to treat both surfaces properly without compromising the integrity of the PPF.

Initial Prep & Inspection

Once the Cayman arrived at the shop, we started with our full prep wash and decontamination process. This removes road film, embedded contaminants, and anything sitting on the surface that would interfere with polishing or coating adhesion.

During the inspection, we confirmed the PPF was still in great shape—which is a testament to why film plus ceramic is such a powerful long-term solution. After blowing the car dry and completing our contact decon, the Cayman was ready for the next phase: dialing in the paint and beginning our wheels-off service.

Wheels-Off Ceramic Coating Service

Removing the wheels allows us to reach areas that are  impossible to clean properly during a normal detail. On high-performance cars like this Porsche, brake dust builds up quickly and can cause corrosion if left untreated.

With the wheels removed, we were able to:

  • Deep-clean and prep the wheel barrels, spokes, and lug areas + calipers
  • Thoroughly clean and treat the brake calipers (including behind them)
  • Detail the suspension and wheel wells
  • Apply a high-temp ceramic coating designed to withstand performance driving

The red Porsche calipers popped beautifully once coated

Paint / PPF Polishing & Ceramic Coating

Because this vehicle already had PPF installed, we used our PPF-specific polish and coating combination. These coatings are formulated to bond properly to film, enhance gloss, and add UV protection without creating any compatibility issues.

Highlights of this stage:

  • Light machine polishing on exposed paint
  • Gentle refinement polishing on PPF using film-safe pads
  • Application of our professional-grade ceramic coating
  • Coating applied to paint, PPF, plastic trim, and glass
  • Additional layers on high-impact areas for extended durability

This step really brought the metallic silver to life—the gloss, depth, and smoothness were immediately noticeable. Even with years-old PPF, the coating made everything look fresh and brand new again.

Final Results

Once the wheels were torqued to spec and the coating had time to cure, the Cayman looked absolutely flawless. Between the refreshed PPF, newly coated paint, and a fully ceramic-protected braking system, this Porsche is now set for years of easy maintenance and long-term protection.

The owner can now enjoy:

  • Better shine and clarity
  • Easier wash maintenance
  • High UV protection
  • Hydrophobic surfaces across the entire vehicle
  • Long-term preservation of both the paint and the existing PPF

This is the perfect example of how ceramic coating isn’t just for brand-new vehicles—it can also be ideal for refreshing cars that already have some level of protection in place.

GM Black: Why Protecting This Specific Paint is Crucial When you own a black vehicle like this GMC Sierra, you already know how much attention it demands. There is no doubt that black paint is stunning and elegant, but it also requires extra care, especially when it comes to preserving a swirl-free finish. One of the biggest downfalls of black automotive paint is its sensitivity to swirls, scratches, and other imperfections — this is especially true when the paint is softer, which is common in most vehicles made by Toyota, Honda, and GMC. In this post, we’ll dive into how the softness of your paint affects the detailing process, and why it’s crucial to preserve it for the longevity and beauty of your vehicle. Softer paints typically feature a sensitive clear coat and are more responsive to pressure, abrasives, and environmental factors. This makes it easier for imperfections to form on the surface. Black paint, in particular, shows these flaws more prominently, which is why owners of soft paint black vehicles (like this GMC Sierra) should go the extra mile when maintaining their car’s finish.
